I’ve been hinting around lately that my blog is going to be a little more public soon and today is the big day. A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by a writer at the Kansas City Star who wanted to feature my blog in an article he was writing. At first I was pretty excited about it, but then I had to stop and think for a few minutes.
Up until now I have kept this blog very private. I only recently decided to share it with my husband and even that was a big step for me. Allowing my name to be printed and associated with this blog is a pretty scary thing. It means that anyone who does a google search for my name has an all access pass to my innermost thoughts. Well, the innermost thoughts that I choose to publish online anyway. It means that my family, my boss, and anyone else who really wants to find me can and most likely will. The chances of the article sliding by unnoticed by anyone I know are very slim. A lot of people around here read the paper.
I debated back and forth about whether to back out, but in the end decided that maybe it is time that I come out of the closet. My biggest fear is that someone will read my words, take them the wrong way, and be offended. It may be scary, or even downright terrifying, but at the same time I imagine it will be very freeing. I no longer have to hide something that has become such a huge part of who I am.
I think I may be making a big deal about nothing really. I guess I’ll find out soon.

Hi! Saw you featured in the Star article. I’m in the country about 30 miles from KC. I’m so addicted to blogging, I have more than one. I’ll be checking you out.
I kept all of my blogs anonymous for several years, but this year I’ve loosened up and allowed my name to be associated with them here and there online (although I still leave it off the blogs themselves). So far, so good.
Oh no!!!!!! Make them put your name under the right picture.
You do not look like the woman that they identified as you (even though I haven’t seen you, I do consider myself somewhat of an expert on pictures of you and, no, I don’t think that sounds weird, why?)
Ugh…*grumble, grumble, grumble* damn paper messin’ up my friend’s picture….

Yes, its a little scary to come out, isn’t it? Its fun though, except the pictures were a little out of whack this morning, I think they fixed it. My grandmother saw me in the print edition paper, but she doesn’t know what a blog is anyway, and she didn’t recognize the photo. I don’t know what to make of that.

Hey Dee. Congrats on making the paper. How did he find out about you? It is very cool. I hear about your kid’s tv blog, but I didn’t know you had a secret one.
I loved your letter to Zach. That’s the kind of thing he can cherish when he is a parent. The pictures are also adorable of course.
Well, the KC Star link won’t let me read the article without registering, but I bet it was great!! You’re super brave for taking this step — I don’t think I could do it!
