Christmas Day trip to the hospital with rash that first we thought was a heat rash. Around the neck, behind the knees and in the elbow creases. Katie has been a bit 'off' her banana and with them being so cheap, I have been giving them to her most morning and afternoon snacks with other fruit or baby food combined. So I was thinking that it might be an overkill of banana that is giving her this rash? Also I unthinking gave her some pavlova to try (egg whites). She then came up in a rash all over her face, stomach, legs and started on her back from her neck to a quarter down her back. She also came up in blisters, first on her left hand and then on her torso. We raced to emergency as I hadn't seen this rash to date and her cousin has been diagnosed with scarlett fever in the past two days, only to have the rash virtually dissapear before seeing the doctor. Stating that we thought it was an egg reaction, the doctor agreed, checked her tongue, her chest and sent us on our way. The rash has come up again, redder and angrier it seems but it hasn't affected her breathing. I am putting on creme to try and aleviate the uncomfortableness so she can at least sleep. I will try taking banana out of her diet entirely for the next week and see if that helps and will also book with a specialist to check for allergies. Thankyou for your updates on this site folks. It is really helpful to know that we are not alone in this. Sorry that allergies are on the rise it seems for our little ones. Hoping that they set up a system whereby kids can be diagnosed and treated that much earlier with clear and concise information to save them this agony and us the stress as well.

I have 4 boys all diagnosed with eczema....phooey. They kept getting the same rash that the pictures show above, ear infections, and congested with a cough. I kept up with all of the treatments, creams, and washes they told me about. Being the stubborn unbelieving person I am when it comes to Dr's especially when they weren't helping, I started eliminating diet components. I found they are allergic, or intolerant, to processed dairy of any sort. They can all have milk from a dairy, which is illegal in a lot of states. Once they pasteurize dairy products it kills all of the helpful bacteria that help you digest milk products properly, as well as the negative bacteria as well, but they need the good bacteria to help them. Also, they are allergic to gluten. Both seem to effect the rash and their bowels. They get cranky at times when having these products. Even breastfeeding babies are affected. So, good luck with your search, just don't believe everything the Dr's tell you. They are human too, and can't know everything. Trust your judgment as a parent...we still know best, usually.

My little girl is a month old. She have the same rash. I took her to the dr and she told me that she could be allergic to the detergent or to her body wash. I use the Johnson and Johnson head-to-toe wash, which is an hypoallergenic soap. For the detergent, I use Tide and snuggle for the softener. I have a feeling that it was the liquid softener cause it has a strong scent to it. The Dr. told me to use Dove for the body wash and Dreft for the detergent. I plan to change the detergent to Dreft and not use any softener to see if the rash goes away. If not, then I will change the body wash.

Came across this in my search for pictures of babies with banana allergy. I know its an old post, but thanks for the thorough story. My son is 13+ months and has dealt with eczema since he was 3-4 months old....it has really died down in the last couple of months. We suspected he might be allergic to bananas, but it seems to be sporadic. however, today I gave him bananas and wham -- bright red rash on cheeks, and itchy eyes he keeps rubbing. His peds dermatologist has given us an arsenal of remedies...1/2 teaspoon zyrtec, 1/2 teaspoon benadryl if its really bad, we use aveeno baby eczema lotion or eucerin, and we also have Fluticasone cream and elidel if needed. We got the same bath regimen -- slather them within 3 minutes. I was wondering if you've seen resolution now that your little one is older?

My 8 month old son broke out yest in terrible rash, just like the bad one on your babys neck, but all over his tummy and back. Not in his nappy area or legs or arms though.

Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out what food it was because I had given him 3 new foods in the space of 2 days. What an idiot.

He had just eaten home made custard when I noticed it, but he had the same the day before. 4 hours earlier he had mashed carrots and spinach, again which he had the day before. And 8 hours earlier I gave him oatmeal for the first time. I think it was the oatmeal but I cant be sure.

This morning the rash is completely gone. I warmed the oatmeal I prepped yest and got ready to give again, knowing it could cause the rash, but I wanted to eliminate it. I couldn't. I chickened out and made him farex baby rice instead.

So I guess what I learned from this is what I knew, but silly me, didn't do. Only introduce ONE NEW FOOD at a time, and give it about 4 days to see if anything happens.

It was strange to hear the specialist who did the allergy test said she shouldn't have an allergy to bananas. Esp when she had a reaction where the banana came into contact with her skin. When my mother fed me bananas when I was about 1, my body and face swelled up immediately, my mam said my face was so puffed up that my eyes couldn't even open. The Drs at the Auckland Childrens Hosp had never seen anything like it before. She never gave me bananas again. I only starting eating bananas at 21 when I had a craving for them while I was pregnant. Allergy to bananas gone.

All the best.

I know this is an old post, but I found it while looking up answers for my 1 yr olds rash. She never had it while nursing, but since I stopped nursing she can't eat anything except organic goats milk, with no latex nipples/bottles, and we're getting ready to start using soap nuts as Dreft doesn't work. What I don't like about using creams as someone mentioned is that creams cover the problem, they don't correct it! I want it to be fixed! But no one knows how. We're trying though, its sad to see your little one suffer. Thanks for the post.

This is a classical form of Atopic Dermatitis in children with some more broad distribution.
I doubt that from Zyrtec you will have the slightest positive result.
Zyrtec is prescribed only for intensive itching ( or in other condition also, without a link to the AD itself) in this situations and do not have any result on the natural history of this disease.

The best moisturizing creme in USA is this- Eucerin Aquaphor:

Glad if I may of some help to you.

Well I was told that I have it easy with my son Sacha. He's 4 month old now and sleeps all night from 8:30PM to 8AM. On the 1st of Jan 2011 at noon after his cereal and bottle he got a rash around his neck. I told my husband that this rash is not normal. He told me don't worry it all ok ...
( says the son of a DR., always not stress with anything). My mother instants said nop!! This is something.... At 4 pm my husband said to me wow he good the rash all over his tummy and back. So I call my pediatrician she told me to stop the cereal he mite be allergic to cereal. Give him veggies start with carrots, 3 days later his rash came back. Very Very red with like small with pimpulls so this time my pediatrician told me it mite be eczema. To give him a bath with cetaphil and put cream with no perfume. I put Callcalendula made by California baby. This cream is for extremely dry and sensitive skin. Also recommended for Eczema. So after 1 hour it was all gone but I still don't know what causes the rash .....
It could be clothes contact with fabric softener, food, milk, teething or eczema ??? I understand how you most feel, it so stress fold not to know what is wrong with your precious one. let me know if someone has I suggestion for me . Thanks Shawn
