Growing up, church was mandatory and I remember fondly going to the children's area where they discussed the main theme of the mass and we usually coloured a picture of the story we learned or acted something out... the younger ones were able to play together. It was a good place to be. When I was older I was able to work in the same 'nursury' We called it something different but I can't remember what it was!
I know my son would never be able to sit for that long (Christmas mass was torture for him) and when he understands the purpose and reason for attending I know he'll get more out of the Adult version of Church and be able to sit through it.

Hi! At our church we have Sunday School and I attended that as a kid. At the start of mass us kids would go and learn Bible verses or songs and what not, and had all sorts of activities too. We'd be ushered in to take communion, and then I don't remember now if we finish the rest of the mass or go back to 'school.' So for most of us growing up, the first school we knew was Sunday School and it was kinda nice.

I worked in the Church nursery for over ten years, and loved every minute of it. It was, in my case, mostly playtime for the kids. Although when I rocked a baby I always sang "Jesus Loves Me" or some other kiddie Christian song.

I have noticed that kids don't know how to behave in Church these days, and I'm sure the nursery is part of the reason.

I actually do like the idea of having a children's service as long as they are actually doing something constructive. I'm sure they learn a lot more when it is taught on their level. What I don't like is someone I don't know taking my child out of church to go play (without my permission) .

I so need more weekends like that.

RE: Church
At my old church, the children would sit through the first part and then before all the readings and the gospel, they would make an announcement and if the kids wanted to, they could go to the Children's mass downstairs. They did the same reading and gospel lessons as the adults, but they did the kids versions - like read from the kids bible. They all loved it! It was easier for them to understand and I think they actually got more out of it!

Of course this was years ago and I haven't been to church in a while (heathen. pray for me.), but I think the Children's service is a good idea.

HOWEVER, lady pulling him out without asking you first? OH WRONG! On SO many levels.
